Day 4. On the Mountain
A winter getaway at the Irish Inn! You simply can’t come to Hood River without visiting Mount Hood our main attraction. There is so much to explore up on Mt Hood Meadows from a brew pub hiking trail, mushrooms hunting and of course skiing and snowboarding. Mount Hood Meadows is the largest lit ski area in the US excellent for night Skying. The small village of Government Camp offers a lot of Kids activates and restaurants our most favorite thing has to be the Alpine Slides in the summer a must do for adults and kids alike!
They also have additional activates like Skying, Sledding, Zip lining, Bungee jumping, Sled Rides down the town for the whole Family and Ski lift rides in the summer to reach certain hiking trails or just ride for the view! These ski areas listed below have some of the best skying in America with world class powder and along with fantastic dining options you will be sure to enjoy this memorable trip.
Drive from Hood River to see Timberline Lodge which was constructed in 1937 and sits on the south slope of Mt. Hood at an elevation of 6000ft also where “The Shining” was filmed. Enjoy a drink from this magnificent sky lodge and mountain retreat while enjoying the stunning multi mountain view of Mt Batchler and Mt Adams. Timberline Lodge also has hikes, snow cat rides, snowshoe hikes, a beautiful gift shop and pool.
Also known for being open 10 months of the year with a vertical incline of 4540 feet which is more than any other ski area in the US. This magnificent building is a sight to see in itself, marvel at the massive timber beams by the grand fireplace cut in the 1930’s.
This area is more suitable for families with kids, 960 acres of skiing area and neon night’s snow tubing the kids will not get bored. Snow mobile tours skiing lessons and a relaxed atmosphere for all to enjoy. Copper Spur with just one lift is a family friendly ski area and the Crooked River Tavern is a great place to eat, we like to go up there for New Years and enjoy a quiet dinner in the snow, they have a great menu selection which we love to sample each year!
The Hood River Fruit Loop is located about 60Miles east of Portland. We are situated on the main street (Oak St) of Hood River which brings you to the beginning of the loop on HWY 35. Grab an early bite to eat down town at “Freshies Bagels” then head to the upper valley to explore the magnificent views and mountain vistas.
Drive the Fruit Loop Road and you won’t be disappointed, 35 miles of farms and orchards to visit. Indulge in homemade pies, cookies, jellies, and jams. The Fruit Loop can take an enjoyable 2-3 hours to complete with almost 30 different Farm Stands selling and growing many different fruits, vegetables flowers and delicious apple cider, a local favorite.
